Anthropic Localizes Claude Pricing for India, Introducing INR Subscription Plans

Artificial‑intelligence startup Anthropic has begun offering its Claude chatbot on a price structure denominated in Indian rupees, marking the first major localization of the service outside the United States. The move follows a surge in demand from developers, startups, and enterprises in India, which Anthropic now identifies as its second‑largest market after the U.S.

The new pricing model consists of three tiers – Basic, Professional, and Enterprise – each billed monthly in INR. The Basic tier starts at roughly 1,500 INR and provides a modest token allowance suitable for hobbyists and small projects. The Professional tier, priced at about 4,500 INR, raises the token limit, adds priority support, and unlocks advanced prompting features. Enterprise customers can opt for plans beginning at 12,000 INR, which include dedicated infrastructure, custom model fine‑tuning, and a service‑level agreement tailored to large‑scale deployments.

Anthropic has integrated popular Indian payment methods such as credit cards, UPI, and local bank transfers to simplify the checkout experience. Company executives say the rupee‑based pricing removes the friction of currency conversion and protects users from volatile exchange‑rate swings, making budgeting more predictable for both individual developers and small‑to‑medium businesses.

“India’s tech‑savvy population and rapid AI adoption make it a natural focus for us,” said Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s co‑founder, during a virtual briefing. “By aligning our pricing with local purchasing power, we hope to accelerate experimentation and innovation across the subcontinent.”

The announcement arrives at a time when global AI leaders such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta are also tailoring their offerings to regional markets. Analysts view Anthropic’s decision as a clear signal that the Indian AI ecosystem is maturing and that competition for talent and market share will intensify.
