After exiting Opendoor in 2022, serial entrepreneur Eric Wu stepped out of stealth mode in May to unveil his latest venture, NavigateAI. The startup is building artificial‑intelligence copilots that deliver real‑time, hands‑free instructions to construction workers via smartphones and Meta’s AI‑enabled glasses.

The core idea is simple yet powerful: use voice‑driven AI to walk crews through complex assembly steps, measurements, and safety checks, reducing errors and boosting on‑site productivity. NavigateAI’s technology is being positioned as a remedy for the severe labor crunch that now sees data‑center builds requiring 4,000‑5,000 workers each—far more than the market can supply.

Backed by a $25 million Series A round led by Elad Gil, Khosla Ventures, and home‑builder Lennar, the company has secured both tech and construction expertise. Investors are betting on Wu’s track record and the promise that AI can act as a virtual foreman, instantly guiding workers without pulling them away from their tools.

In a recent interview Wu said, “Our AI copilot is like a super‑visor that never sleeps; it tells the crew the right move at the right moment, keeping hands on the job.” Early beta trials in several U.S. cities have already shown a 15‑20% lift in productivity, according to participating contractors.

NavigateAI plans to roll out a broader commercial release next year, targeting both large‑scale infrastructure projects and smaller subcontractor teams. If the platform scales as expected, it could become a pivotal piece of technology that eases the industry’s talent shortage while cutting project timelines and costs.
