India’s Airbound Secures $37M Funding to Challenge Trucks with Rocket-Style Drones

India‑based logistics startup Airbound announced it has closed a $37 million financing round, backed by Greenoaks Capital, food‑delivery giant DoorDash and Silicon Valley angel investor Lachy Groom. The fresh capital will be used to develop ultra‑light, rocket‑shaped drones that aim to compete directly with conventional truck freight.

Airbound’s engineering team is focusing on cutting‑edge carbon‑fiber composites and lightweight alloys to shrink drone weight while maximizing energy efficiency. The resulting airframes are expected to lift more than 10 kg of cargo, travel up to 30 km on a single charge and cruise at speeds close to 120 km/h. Such performance could cut urban delivery times in half and dramatically lower carbon emissions.
