Lucid’s Revamp Plan Targets $1.4 B Savings and Robotaxi Expansion

Electric‑vehicle maker Lucid Motors is rolling out a comprehensive turnaround plan under its newly appointed chief executive, Silvio Napoli. The strategy hinges on four non‑negotiable priorities: a clean launch of a midsize EV, the completion of a new manufacturing complex in Saudi Arabia, aggressive cost‑cutting measures, and the rollout of a robotaxi service.

The midsize model marks Lucid’s first foray beyond its flagship luxury sedan, aiming to attract a broader consumer base with a more affordable price tag while retaining the brand’s hallmark range and performance. Napoli emphasized that the vehicle must hit the market without delays or quality issues, positioning Lucid as a serious contender against established mass‑market EV players.

On the production side, the Saudi Arabian plant—still under construction—will serve as a strategic hub for both regional sales and export markets. The factory’s completion is slated for early 2027, and the company plans to integrate local supply chains, workforce training programs, and advanced automation to boost output efficiency.

Cost discipline is the financial engine of the plan. Napoli disclosed a target of $1.4 billion in cash savings over the next 18 months. The savings will be realized through renegotiated supplier contracts, a streamlined parts inventory, and the elimination of non‑essential overhead. In parallel, Lucid will refocus its research‑and‑development budget on core technologies that directly support the midsize launch and autonomous driving capabilities.

The robotaxi initiative represents Lucid’s long‑term vision for mobility‑as‑a‑service. By leveraging its proprietary autonomous‑driving stack, the company intends to launch pilot robotaxi fleets in select cities by 2027, eventually scaling to a global network. This service is expected to generate recurring revenue, enhance brand visibility, and provide valuable data to refine the company’s self‑driving algorithms.

Collectively, these actions aim to restore Lucid’s cash flow, reassure investors, and solidify its position in the increasingly competitive EV landscape. Napoli’s roadmap promises a more sustainable, innovative, and profitable future for the automaker.
