Tesla Begins Pedal‑Free, Wheel‑Less Cybercab Trials in Austin

Tesla has taken a concrete step toward the robotaxi service it has promised for years by starting on‑road trials of a completely pedal‑free and steering‑less Cybercab in Austin, Texas. The prototype resembles a conventional sedan on the outside but lacks a driver’s seat, steering wheel and foot pedals, relying entirely on the company’s Full Self‑Driving (FSD) software to control acceleration, braking and lane changes.

The Austin test program is being run in close cooperation with local authorities, who have cleared a designated corridor for safe autonomous operation. Inside the Cybercab, passengers find a spacious cabin with large infotainment screens and no traditional driver controls.
