Wearable tech company Circular unveiled its next‑generation Ring 3 lineup on Thursday, adding two distinct models to its portfolio: the feature‑rich Ring 3 Pro and the ultra‑slim Ring 3 Slim. Both smart rings incorporate a tiny vibration motor that delivers haptic cues directly to the finger, allowing users to feel alarms, calendar reminders, or incoming messages without looking at a screen.
The headline attraction is the embedded NFC chip, which turns the ring into a contactless payment tool. Instead of pulling out a card or a phone, owners can simply tap the ring on a compatible terminal to complete a transaction. Circular says the payment flow is protected by industry‑standard encryption and tokenization, aiming to keep financial data safe.
From a design perspective, the Ring 3 Pro improves on its predecessor by slimming down the housing while preserving a larger battery that powers the haptic engine and NFC antenna for longer periods. The Slim variant strips away some of the extra sensors to achieve a minimalist silhouette, making it an ideal choice for users who prioritize discretion over extra functionality.
Software integration is handled through a cross‑platform app available for Android and iOS. The app lets users customize vibration patterns, adjust intensity, manage payment cards, view transaction history, and monitor battery life. Users can also set specific notification filters, deciding which alerts trigger a buzz on the finger and which remain silent.
In a press briefing, Circular’s CEO highlighted the vision behind Ring 3: “We wanted a device that lives on the part of the body we use most for interaction, turning a simple gesture into a secure, seamless experience. Whether you’re paying for coffee or checking a meeting reminder, the ring does it all without pulling out another device.” Pre‑orders for both models are slated to begin next month, with the first shipments expected before the end of the year.
